Most us have participated at one time or another in "pick a
square" pools. This usually happens when the Super Bowl comes
around and normally has 4 winners (one for each quarter of the game.) This makes
watching the game a bit more exciting since the score of the game determines who are the
winners of the pool.
To play,
participants choose square(s) in a 10x10 grid. After the grid is completely
filled, random numbers from 0 to 9 are assigned to the columns and rows. These
random numbers represent the last digit of the score for each team, column numbers for one
team and row numbers for the other. As the game is played, the score at the end
of each quarter will determine a square on the 10x10 grid. The player who chose
that square wins for that quarter!
With a portion of every pool grid being donated
to the City of Hope Cancer Research Institute, when a participant is not
one of the big winners, they know that someone will eventually benefit from their
participation.
